Rom. 7:1-13; Mt. 9:36-10:8
When the Lord sent the holy Apostles to preach, He commanded them to call the people saying: “The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand” [Mt. 10:7], that is, “the Kingdom is right here, come and enter into it!” And what about us, what should we preach? We should cry: “Sons of the Kingdom! Don’t run away from the Kingdom into bondage and slavery!” ─ for there are quite a few who do indeed run away.
Some get enchanted by the liberty of mind: “We don’t need, ─ they claim, ─ any bonds of faith, any oppression of authority, even Divine authority; we would rather resolve and decide everything on our own!” So they have done just that: conjured up fables more childish than ancient Greek mythology and take pride in it… Others are seduced by the wide road of passions: “We don’t want to know any positive commandments, any demands of conscience: all that stuff is too abstract; we need something natural and practical!” Little wonder that in their pursuit of nature they have become like senseless beasts.
It looks like the theory of man’s origin from animals stems right from this moral rot. Gone far enough, and still running away from the Lord.
