2Tim. 2:11-19; Lk. 18:2-8

In order to better illustrate the truth “that men ought always to pray, and not to faint” [Lk. 18;1] if the prayer is not immediately answered, but to keep praying, the Lord says the parable about the judge who had no fear of God and no shame of the people, but nevertheless satisfied the need of the widow ─ for no other reason that she was persistent in her petition.

If such a heartless man caved in to her unrelenting demand, do you think that loving and merciful God would turn down a petition addressed to Him unceasingly, with tears and contrition?!  And here is the reason why our prayers often remain without answer: because we pray to God without diligence, as if in passing, and, moreover, having prayed today, we expect it to be fulfilled right tomorrow, with no effort on our part.   Little wonder, then, that our petitions are unheeded to and bring no fruit, as long as we fail to observe the law of constancy, diligence and persistence in prayer.
