Heb. 10:32-38; Mk. 2:14-17
“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” [Mk. 2:17]. The Lord has been calling the foolish through the lips of Divine Wisdom, and now we hear how He, while walking on the earth, is calling the sinners.
Neither proud wizards, nor self-styling righteous, have a place with the Lord. Let weakness and humility rejoice! Away with rational and practical prowess! Humility all throughout, humility which knows how weak and destitute it is, comes in faith to the Lord, receives strength and sustenance, gains wisdom and virtue ─ yet remains humble, aware of its foolishness and sinfulness.
Under this lowly cover, God’s strength is made perfect in weakness [2Cor. 12:9], invisibly creating a new man, lucid in his reason and character. Sometimes he is made visible even in this present earthly life; but in any case this new man gets known in the life of the age to come. That’s what is hidden from the wise and prudent, and revealed only unto babes [Mt. 11:25]!
