Acts 4:1-10; Jn. 3:16-21
“He that believeth not in the Son of God is condemned already” [Jn. 3:18]. What is he condemnd for? For remaining in darkness, for his love of darkness, when light is all around him. His love of darkness and hatred of light make him guilty on all counts, even before he finds out what the truth is, ─ for if one has a sincere love of truth, it will surely lead him out of darkness into light.
Take an example of St. Paul the Apostle. He had the most earnest love of truth, zealously devoted to what he thought to be true, with no self-interest involved. That is why, no later than he saw that the truth was not what he had assumed, he abandoned his old views and beliefs, now proven to be false, and wholeheartedly embraced the newly found, clear and tangible truth.
The same happens to anyone who loves truth. The truth of Christ is absolutely clear: seek and ye shall find. God is ready to help every honest seeker, so, if anyone remains in the darkness of unbelief, he does so only for his love of darkness, and for this he is already condemned.
