Holy Thursday
1Cor. 11:23-32, Mt. 26:1-20 (and other readings)
The commemoration of the Last Supper and the first Holy Communion falls on the day of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary [in the year 1882 when the Reflections were written]. What a great coincidence! We take Communion of the true Body and true Blood of Christ, Body and Blood which He received from His Most Pure Mother when He was incarnate and became Man. Therefore, the Incarnation of the Lord which came to pass at the moment of the Annunciation, the basis of the Sacrament of the Holy Communion was laid.
This is being reminded to all Christians, so that we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary as our true mother: not only does she pray for us before the Lord, but she is also the source of our mystical nourishment. Young children are nourished by the milk of their mother, while we receive God’s Grace unto our sanctification through the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ which come from His Most Pure Mother.
