Col. 1:1-2,7-11; Lk. 8:1-3
The Lord preached, while the women “ministered unto Him of their substance” [Lk. 8:3], as if personally taking part in His ministry.
To preach the Gospel is not given to everyone ─ but everyone can contribute to its advance and become an associate in this work which is the first in significance on earth. Such associates to the holy Apostles were many; even more numerous they became in the next generation, and later on, throughout the entire history of the Church, up until this day. Our missionaries in the Caucasian mountains, in Siberia and elsewhere, successors to the ministry of the Lord and His Apostles, work assiduously, suffering from every kind of need and affliction. Those who send them help will be counted among the women who ministered unto the Lord and will receive an equal reward.
The Lord said: “He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me” [Jn. 13:20]; thus, He identifies Himself with those who are sent to preach, and helping them means helping Him personally. Furthermore, “He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward” [Mt. 10:41]: isn’t that a sufficient reason to sustain contributions to the great and glorious effort of preaching the Gospel?
