The Presentation of the Lord in the Temple ─ Candlemas
Heb. 7:7-17; Lk. 2:22-40
Let us look at those who stood around Child Jesus when He was brought into the Temple [Lk. 2:22-40]. On one side there was St. Simeon, ─ that is, righteousness which does not look for salvation in itself, ─ and St. Anna the Prophetess, ─ that is, chaste life in fasting and prayer, inspired by faith. On the other side we see the Most Holy Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, ─ that is, genuine, absolute and total purity, ─ and St. Joseph the Betrothed, ─ that is, humble, quiet submission and dedication to God’s will.
Take all these attitudes into your own heart ─ and you will meet the Lord, not carried as a child, but coming to you Himself; receive Him in the embrace of your heart and sing a hymn which will ascend into the heavens and give joy to all angels and saints.
